I AM BEAUTIFUL by Nancy Lazaro Mwaisaka

I was told I am not beautiful
And I allowed my world to be surrounded by negativity
Of people who knew nothing about creation
I woke up the other day
And realized
I am made according to God’s image
And God
Is the one who created the sun
The moon and the oceans
The giraffes, the mountains
And me
He made everything beautiful
And I am beautiful
I turn my scars to be the brightest stars
And my purpose on earth is to shine

Your words won’t make me bow down
Or feel sorry for the way I look
You can point fingers
Or look away when I pass
My look may not grab your attention
And make you say “Woooow”
I may not be what your eyes choose to see
And what your heart interprets
I am me
The creation of the creator
I am unique and special
And this is not according to your standards
But of the one who placed you and I on earth
You may describe beauty according to your terms
But my terms only says beauty is
I may not have a killer body but I have a body that would kill to be in the front row holding a banner written
“I am beautiful”
I don’t need to prove to the world that I am
Because even before coming to earth
The one who created me
Called me beautiful
My beauty lies in the chambers of my heart
Deep down the layers of my skin
Flowing with the blood flow
Beating with my heart
It is in the strength of my bones that my beauty blossom

I am better than the hair styles, color of my skin and my body size
I am the image of the sunrise and the sunset
I am the full moon in the sky full of the brightest stars
I am a refined diamond that was covered with mud
I am beautiful
And beautiful is me
